HM‑TS Mortar for Bridge Expansion Joint

HM-TS mortar is used as an anchoring filler for expansion joints to complete the elastic reinforcement construction around steel expansion joints.

Project

This project involves the construction of new trunk highway bridges in Saudi Arabia. Following the completion of the bridge deck paving, the installation and anchoring of the bridge's steel expansion joints will commence.

Traditional brittle concrete used for expansion joint anchoring areas is highly susceptible to cracking, spalling, water seepage, and vehicle bouncing under vehicle loads and temperature deformation. This project directly utilizes HM-TS mortar as the permanent filling material for the expansion joint anchoring area, reducing bridge maintenance and repair costs from the outset.

Product  Advantages

  • High Elasticity and Deformation Resistance: Unlike ordinary rigid concrete, HM-TS possesses excellent elastic deformation capabilities, adapting to the thermal expansion and contraction displacement of bridges, continuously resisting repeated impact loads from heavy vehicles, and preventing cracking and damage in the anchorage zone;

  • Overall Sealing and Waterproofing: After curing, the structure is dense and impermeable, preventing rainwater from seeping into the beam, preventing steel corrosion, and improving the long-term service durability of the bridge;

  • Excellent Workability: On-site mixing and direct pouring, self-compacting, easy manual finishing, and strong adhesion to expansion joint steel and existing asphalt bridge deck without voids;

  • Early Strength and Rapid Delivery: Short maintenance cycle, allowing for rapid traffic opening, perfectly matching the construction schedule requirements of new road and bridge projects.

On-site Construction Process

  • Base Surface Positioning and Treatment:

Clean the pre-reserved grooves for the expansion joints, blowing away dust and debris; complete the hoisting and positioning of the entire set of steel expansion joints, tighten the anchor bolts, and accurately calibrate the top surface flatness.

  • HM-TS Elastic Concrete Mixing and Pouring:

Mix HM-TS elastic concrete and pour it into the pre-reserved anchor grooves on both sides of the expansion joint. Manually assist in spreading and vibrating the filling to ensure the material completely covers the anchor bolts and is densely packed without gaps.

  • Fine Surface Finishing and Leveling:

Construction workers use trowels to smooth and finish the material surface, strictly controlling the top surface elevation to achieve a smooth transition between the repaired area and the asphalt bridge surface, eliminating the height difference between vehicles.

  • Cure and Acceptance, Handover to Traffic:

Perform proper curing and protection of the finished product. After the material reaches the design strength, remove the construction safety barriers and traffic facilities.
